News

uMoya-NILU is a growing company, expanding into southern Africa's air quality management market. Following, some of our news updates:

  • uMoya-NILU to develop Air Quality Management System for Total SA
The project entails emission inventory development, air quality monitoring, dispersion modelling, emission reduction recommendations, and development of an air quality management plan. The scope covers Total SA's eleven depots located throughout the country, as well as the manufacturing plant.

  • Draft Baseline Assessment available for Highveld Priority Area
The uMoya-NILU consortium has made the draft baseline assessment for the Highveld Priority Area available to stakeholders for review and comment. The report is available for download on the project website, www.highveldair.co.za. The baseline assessment will be formally presented at the MSRG meeting on 19 April 2010. The comment period for the draft report closes on 21 May 2010.

  • uMoya-NILU  to review the City of Johannesburg's AQMP
We will be reviewing the AQMP for the City of Johannesburg, the first AQMP developed for a government entity in South Africa, and subsequently the first to be reviewed. The City published it's AQMP in 2003, prior to major developments in AQM, such as the promulgation of the Air Quality Act and publication of the National Framework for AQM. In addition, the City has recorded several successes in AQM. The review will take cognisance of this, and introduce innovative management and international best practice to the second edition of the AQMP.

  • uMoya-NILU drives technical skills development
Noma Mkhize has been appointed as a service technician on a one-year internship at uMoya-NILU. She will assist in the further development of the calibration laboratory, as well as on uMoya-NILU's monitoring and emission inventory projects.

  • North-West provincial monitoring network maintenance and operation contract awarded to UMoya-NILU

The Provincial environmental department of the North-West Province, Department of Agriculture, Conservation, Environment and Rural Development (DACERD), has awarded a 3-year contract to uMoya-NILU for the operation and maintenance of its seven stations in the province. The contract includes data management and capacity building for the department.

  • uMoya-NILU Calibration Laboratory developments

uMoya-NILU will purchase further equipment in the establishment of it's calibration laboratory and has initiated the SANAS 17025 accreditation application process.

  • uMoya-NILU's tender for the establishment of an Air Quality Management System for the Port of Durban has been accepted by Transnet National Ports Authority.

uMoya-NILU will aid the Environmental Management department of Transnet National Ports Authority in assessing the baseline air quality status of the Port of Durban and determine a suitable air quality monitoring strategy and management plan to address air quality management needs.

  • uMoya-NILU and Golder Associates Africa have signed a memorandum of understanding, which sees a preferential service provider relationship established between the two consulting companies.

uMoya-NILU benefits from Golder's strong position in development projects on the African continent and ability to lead in Environmental Impact Assessments. Co-operation has already been achieved on a number of assessment projects, and uMoya-NILU looks forward to a  continued fruitful and mutually beneficial partnership.
